Daisy's Vintage Cornish Camper Van - Ali 'Mc'Namara
I hadn't read properly for a long time before reading this. I spent my childhood with my head buried in a book. I was a tomboy when I was younger and I suppose i'm not much of a girly girl now. Somewhere between coming a teenager and the crazy few years that followed, I lost touch with my inner bookworm and put down the pages for far too long. I look back now and think of all the books I could have read in that time, all of the characters I will never get to meet. I plan on making up for that time as much as possible and thought I would documents my journey along the way.
After mentioning to my partner that I wanted to get back into reading, he bought me Daisy's Vintage Cornish Camper Van for my birthday. Once I had picked it up, I fell in love again instantly with reading. The feel of the book in my hands, the smell of the paper, forgetting everything apart from what was going on in the pages between my fingers.
This really is a beautiful little book, set in the fictional town of St Felix. I don't want to give too much away as the thing I loved most about this book was the ending. I didn't suspect it throughout and it wraps the book up wonderfully. It follows Daisy as she leaves her life and travels to Cornwall to pick up a camper van, left to her in a will by her best friend. Once she arrives in St Felix, she realises the van is in no state to be driven home and ends up staying for the summer while the van is fixed. The characters she meets along the way transform her unexpected Cornish summer into a story that makes for great reading, let alone the postcards she finds in the camper van.
The artwork on the books cover is beautiful, which makes it a great addition to any bookshelf. The detail and colours really paint a picture of the St Felix you will become to know and love, just like myself and Daisy. I cannot wait to reread this in a few years and am looking forward to reading some of her other work. Next on the list by Ali 'Mc'Namara is The Little Flower Shop By The Sea, also set in St Felix.
